"Awakening" is a large 16x20 inch hand block print on beautiful swirling mulberry fiber paper. The lotus is a potent symbol of spiritual enlightenment, rebirth, and triumph over obstacles. It was conceived while I was searching for art that would resonate with the hopes and challenges so many have experienced over the last year or two. The block was cut like a jigsaw puzzle, and each separate element was inked, then reassembled, and hand printed. The richness of the color comes from the oil-based inks, which take several weeks to dry to touch. Therefore, only a few are printed at a time. This particular colorway, gold and deep red ink on white swirling mulberry paper is limited to an edition of 50 prints.
